my six year old self
Things I was just remembering from childhood. These thoughts pop out of thin air and make me smile in the middle of whatever I am doing.
Warm stacks of diapers, fresh out of the jumbo dryer, folded , and marked into decades by wrapping the bottom diaper around the edge. Small, medium, large - the threading tells the size. Placed into white plastic bags. Dad lifting up the top, giving the bag a whirl before fastening it with a twist tie.
A van loaded with mountains of white plastic bags,
being sorted as we looked for the next name,
scrawled on the side,
in Dad's Rub-a-dub capitals.
And remember sliding on a worn gray and blue blanket from the back of the delivery van up to the front, courtesy of a red light?

A similar game played on a fold out couch
The weight of little kids on one end
a mattress teetered into the air
who dares ascend Mt. Sealy?
